Upgrading from a Prior Release of SQDR

Customers of versions prior to 5.10 should be aware of the following changes in functionality:

• The 32-bit version of SQDR is is no longer supported. If you are currently running a 32-bit version of SQDR on a 64-bit operating system, you can upgrade to the 64-bit version of SQDR; see the technical document Upgrading to 64-bit SQDR. You will need to save your configuration and uninstall the 32-bit version of SQDR before installing the 64-bit version and restoring your configuration.

Customers of versions prior to 4.50 should be aware of the following changes in functionality:

• Windows XP. Vista, Server 2003, and Server 2008 (non-R2) are no longer supported. You can use this release of SQDR with any of the versions of the Windows operating listed in System Requirements.

Control Database Update

SQDR 5.10 introduces Control Database Schema version 5.10; previous versions are 4.90, 4.50 4.02. Contact StarQuest Support for assistance if you are updating from SQDR prior to v4.90.

If you are updating from SQDR 4.90 through 5.07, run the Data Replicator Configuration to update your existing control database to the 5.10 format. Select the checkbox to run the Configuration on the final screen of the installation wizard, or select Data Replicator Configuration from the Program Group, and choose "Use an existing control database and tables".

• If you are upgrading from any version of StarQuest Data Replicator earlier than 4.90, you must run the Data Replicator Configuration (while at v4.90 level) to migrate your settings from the registry to the Control database.

• If you are updating from SQDR 4.50 through 4.76, you must first upgrade the control database to 4.90 format, and then update it to the 5.10 format.

• If you are updating from SQDR 4.0x or 4.1x, you must first upgrade the control database to 4.50 format, then 4.90 format, before updating to the 5.10 format.

• If you are updating from SQDR 3x,, you must first upgrade the control database to 4.02 format, then 4.50 format, then 4.90 format, before updating to the 5.10 format.

Before you update the Data Replicator software, we recommend that you back up your existing SQDR control database and the following key from the Windows registry. This is especially important when updating from SQDR 3.6 and earlier, which performs a major update (the installation program for Data Replicator automatically checks for a prior version of Data Replicator software and prompts for approval to remove it), or when updating from 32-bit SQDR to 64-bit SQDR. Although you have an option of preserving the service properties and control database when you uninstall SQDR, it is a good idea to create a backup copy.

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\StarQuest\SQDRSVC (for 32-bit SQDR on a 32-bit system or 64-bit SQDR on a 64-bit system)

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\StarQuest\SQDRSVC (for 32-bit SQDR - e.g. SQDR v4.1x & earlier - on a 64-bit system)

If you are upgrading the SQDR Plus software, pause or stop groups that incrementally replicate data to or from that host to avoid receiving error conditions in the Replicator Manager while the Capture Agent is not available.
