Solution
This solution describes how to perform the following procedures:
Step 1: Install StarLicense
Step 2: Obtain License
Step 3: Configure the StarLicense Software
Step 4: Configure the StarSQL Client Licensing
Before You Begin
Before you begin, review the following list to ensure that you have the information and files you need, and that your computer environment provides the minimum requirements.
General Requirements
- You have requested and downloaded the StarLicense software. All software packages are distributed as compressed files that you download from the StarQuest Ventures Web site. From a browser enter the address http://www.starquest.com/ and click on Download for Trial under the Products menu if the prerequisite software has not been downloaded.
- You have the Download Instructions that were sent to the email address specified in the StarQuest Product Download Request form. You need these instructions and Internet access to license the software.
- You have the StarSQL ODBC driver installed and ODBC data sources configured for access to DB2.
- You have access to a Windows user ID that has administrative authority on the computer where StarLicense will be installed.
StarLicense Requirements
- StarLicense listens for StarSQL licensing requests on port 4999, by default. If this computer is protected by a firewall, open port 4999 to allow incoming requests. Alternatively, modify the StarLicense service to listen on a port that is already open. Configuring the StarLicense listening port will be addressed in this document.
Step 1: Install StarLicense
- Log on to Windows as a user with Administrator authority.
- Extract the contents of the downloaded starlicense-i8632.zip file into a temporary directory.
- Run the setup.exe program to start the installation and accept the default StarLicense for Windows setup type.
Step 2: Obtain License
- From a computer that has access to the Internet, preferably the computer running StarLicense, click on or browse to the following URL:
http://starcust.starquest.com/Registration/index.html#license
- On the StarQuest Online Licensing Form web page, enter in the e-mail address used for the original download request and the Registration Key you received in the download confirmation email.
- Enter the Host ID or IP Address of the computer where StarLicense is installed.
- To find the Host ID, run the label or dir command from a Windows command prompt. The Host ID is the Volume Serial Number. Enter this value on the form, omitting any spaces or hyphens (e.g., 6C1772A9).
- If the computer has multiple IP Addresses configured, any one of the IP Addresses can be used. Enter the address in decimal dot notation (e.g., 192.168.44.12).
- Select the License Server radio button. Click Next.
- Review the information provided. If any changes are required, click Previous and modify the values as needed. Otherwise, click the Accept button.
- Copy the license key for use in Step 3. You will also receive an e-mail with the license key.
Step 3: Configure the StarLicense Software
- Select StarLicense Manager from the StarLicense for Windows program group of the Start menu.
- From the StarLicense Manager window, select Connect to Server from the File menu. Select [LOCAL MACHINE] from the drop-down list in the Connect to StarLicense Server dialog and click OK.
- Right click the server name in the left pane and select Configuration (first select Start if the service is not running).
- Click the Licenses tab and click the Add button.
- In the Add License Key dialog enter or paste in the license key obtained in Step2. Click OK.
- If you want to change the port on which StarLicense listens for licensing requests, do so under the Listeners tab. Remove the existing entry for port 4999 and add a new entry specifying the desired port to use.
- Click OK to close the StarLicense Config dialog and return to the StarLicense Manager window.
- Click Licenses in the left pane to display the server license information in the right pane. A status of Hot indicates that StarLicense is configured and listening for license requests.
