Basic Destination Properties Tab

In the Basic tab of the Destination Properties dialog you define or modify a destination that can be used for one or more subscriptions. Note that any change to the properties of a destination affect all subscriptions that replicate data to the destination. Changing the DSN for an existing destination may make destination column settings invalid. To ensure correct replication after changing a destination DSN setting, rebuild the columns list and make any necessary adjustments to the destination columns settings for each subscription that uses the destination.

See Adding a Destination and Using Connection Strings for additional information.

Property

Description

Destination Name

The destination name can be a maximum of 127 characters. You cannot change the name of an existing destination.

Connection Method

ODBC DSN or ODBC Driver

Choose whether to use an ODBC data source or a DSN-less connection string.

Destination DSN

Select the data source name (DSN) for the logical destination that you are defining or modifying. The Name column displays data source names, and the Driver column displays the name of the ODBC driver associated with each DSN. The DSNs that appear depend on how the Replicator Service is configured to start. If the Replicator Service logs on as a system account, a list of system DSNs appears. If the Replicator Service logs on as a user account, the DSNs defined for the specified user account appear in addition to the system DSNs.  (Use the Data Replicator Configuration program to change whether the Replicator Service logs on as a system account or a specific Windows user account.)

To choose a SQL Server destination, look for a listing where the Driver is SQL Server. To choose a Db2 destination, look for listings where the Driver is  StarSQL (64-bit). To choose an Oracle destination, look for listings where the Driver name includes Oracle and ODBC. (Driver names for Oracle vary depending on manufacturer and version.)

Destination Driver

Specifies an ODBC driver to use with a DSN-less connection string (maximus 254 characters).

ODBC Driver Connection String

Specifies an ODBC connection string

Authentication Method

Choose between  Remote Credentials and Use Integrated Security. If you select Remote Credentials, you must enter a User ID and Password.

If you select  Use Integrated Security, the User ID and Password fields will be disabled. You may also have to enter additional information in either the ODBC DSN or connection string e.g. Trusted_Connection=Yes for SQL Server.

User ID and Password

Specify the user ID and password that has permission to access the selected destination. This user ID will be the default owner for any new tables created at the destination by a subscription that uses this destination.

If the destination is a SQL Server system that uses Windows Only authentication, these fields appear dim because the Replicator Service automatically passes the Windows login that is specified in the Log On As section of the Data Replicator Service configuration.

If the destination is a SQL Server system that uses SQL Server and Windows authentication, you must enter the User ID and password of an account that has adequate permissions to replicate the data to the destination.

Click the Advanced tab to specify connection limits for the destination, and OK to approve the destination properties.
