Installing the Data Replicator Software (Windows)

Before you install the Data Replicator software, make sure the pre-requisite hardware and software is available. If you are upgrading from a prior release of the Data Replicator, be sure to review Upgrading from a Prior Release of SQDR.

To install the StarQuest Data Replicator software, execute the Setup.exe program from the distributed software image. The InstallShield Wizard presents a series of dialogs to lead you through the installation. You can install the Data Replicator components to a location you specify.

The last Wizard panel provides an opportunity to start the ODBC Administrator and/or the SQDR Configuration after you click Finish. Using a DSN-less connection string to define connections to the control database and source and destination databases is recommended, but if you prefer to use ODBC data sources, use the ODBC Administrator to configure Data Source Names (DSNs) that define how to access a specific instance of data in a DBMS, including a DSN for the Data Replicator control database.

Use the StarQuest License Configuration dialog to enter a license key or validate an existing license key. You must have a valid Data Replicator license key before you can run replications.

The SQDR Configuration application must be run to create control tables, configure registry entries, and configure the SQDRSVC service before using Data Replicator Manager to define subscriptions.
