Add or Remove a Server

You can manage SQDR running on a local or remote machine by selecting Add Server from the Service menu and entering the hostname of the system. Optionally, you can specify the port, user and password credentials, and various Advanced Options.

You can also specify a Friendly Name (i.e. a name other than the hostname or IP address); this name will appear in the server list in the left column.

Use the Test button to verify connectivity. If a firewall is enabled on the remote system, be sure that it allows connections to the 2 listening ports (default 7737 and 7738).

Interoperability: Use the same major version of Manager as the version of the Service (e.g. use Manager 6.3x to connect to Service 6.3x). Note that v6.x of the Manager cannot connect to v5.x of the Service and vice versa.

The default settings of a server are to listen on port 7737 on all interfaces for a persistent connection (this typically requires user and password credentials - see Role Based Access Control (RBAC)) and port 7738 on the loopback interface (127.0.0.1) for a non-persistent (transactional) connection. Refer to the Listener Settings in Advanced Settings for information about configuring the server.

You can remove servers from the Data Replicator Manager by selecting the server and either selecting Remove Server from the Service menu, or select the server, right-click, and choose Remove Server. See Managing Remote Servers for details.

After adding a server, the icon will display the status of the service. A green up arrow indicates that the service is running and manager successfully connected to it; a red down arrow indicates either that the service is down or that connectivity was not established. If necessary, connect to it by double-clicking on the service icon or by choosing the icon and selecting Connect to Service from the Service menu or the context-sensitive drop-down menu when you right-click on the service icon. You will now see the full details of the SQDR system.

You can examine the product version and other information about the service being managed in the Service Tab of Service Properties.

You can stop a local service by selecting the service name (i.e. the hostname) and selecting Stop Service from the Service menu or from the dropdown menu that appears if you right-click on the name.

You can start the service by selecting Start Service only if all of the following conditions are met:

Alternately, you can use the Services control panel to start and the service.
