The Connections folder shows information about all the connections that the Replicator Service is managing. There are always at least two connections allocated for the Replicator Service to communicate with its control database. Other connections are made to source and destination databases when replications are in progress. Connections also may appear because they are being held open in a connection pool.
When you select a Connections folder in the left pane of the main Data Replicator Manager window and select Details from the View menu, the right pane displays the following information for each connection associated with the current Replicator Service:
the name of the source or destination that is using the connection, or ControlDB if the connection is used by the Replicator Service to communicate with its control database
Connection ID: a unique identifier for each connection
Type: the connection type - ControlDB, Source, Destination, Staging, Apply
Names: the name of the source or destination participating in the connection, or ControlDB if the connection is for the Replicator Service to communicate with its control database
Description: the name of the group or subscription currently using the connection and the name of the operation being performed
Status: the current status of the connection - In Use (the listed connection is currently active), Pooled (the connection is being held open in a connection pool), Closing, Connecting, Expired, Zombie or Canceling
Dwell Time: the elapsed time that the connection has been in the displayed state
Select Refresh from the View menu (or click the button on the toolbar, or press F5) to update the connection information. If you are troubleshooting a problem it may be useful to open another instance of the StarQuest Data Replicator Manager so you can view the Connections information from one session and the replication operations and statistics from the other session.
You can delete a connection by selecting it, right-clicking, and selecting the Delete Connection command. Deleting a connection closes it. If the connection is pooled, it closes immediately. If the connection is in use, the Data Replicator prompts you to confirm that you first want to cancel the replication so it can close the connection.
If you have Incremental subscriptions defined and need to upgrade the SQDR Plus software or perform maintenance on the host computer, you can avoid temporary errors if you pause the incremental group and delete the connection while SQDR Plus is unavailable.
WARNING |
If you cancel a replication by deleting the connection it is using for the operation, the destination table may not contain the information that was present before the replication started. Any data that it does contain may be incomplete and unreliable. Carefully review the destination data and, if necessary, re-run the subscription that was in progress when you cancelled the replication. |
You can limit the number of connections that are allowed to a particular Data Replicator control database, to a particular source, or to a particular destination by editing the Properties for the service, source, or destination, respectively.
